The BioSelect™ Process

Here's how it works, and why each step matters.

  • Unimate starts with yerba mate plants shade-grown under natural forest canopies or carefully restored areas. The finest mature leaves are hand-selected and harvested every one to three years from intact plants — a sustainable practice that protects forest ecosystems and ensures only the highest-quality raw material enters the process.

  • Where most commercial yerba mate is dried using direct flame or smoke — a process that can introduce harmful compounds into the final product — BioSelect™ takes a different approach entirely. Leaves undergo a controlled two-step heat process: a brief flash-heating phase to stop enzyme degradation and lock in the plant's beneficial bioactives, followed by extended low-heat drying. No combustion. No smoke. The beneficial compounds are protected from the start.

  • The dried plant matter is carefully sifted to remove any unwanted organic material, then aged 6 to 12 months to develop ideal flavor and color profiles. It's then expertly milled into a fine, uniform powder — made exclusively from the yerba mate plant and ready for extraction.

  • A gentle, non-chemical extraction process followed by three-stage filtration concentrates the naturally occurring bioactive compounds — chlorogenic acids, theobromine, polyphenols, caffeine, and saponins — for maximum bioavailability. The process is targeted by design: it isolates the compounds that support metabolic health and leaves everything else behind.

  • The ultra-concentrated extract is rigorously tested to verify it meets Unicity's premium bioactive profile — confirming potency of each compound in every single batch. The result: up to 10 times the chlorogenic acids found in a typical cup of coffee, and 20 times those found in other commercially available yerba mate products.
